Super Loco Celebrates International Beer Day With Their Bespoke Range of Craft Beers

07 August 2020 SUPER LOCO ROBERTSON QUAY

Luchadores

International Beer Day always gets us a little hoppy.

Aside from being what we consider one of our sacred days in the Loco calendar, we’re massive fans of craft beer here at The Loco Group. So much so, that our founders Ajay Parag, Christian Tan and Julian Tan were compelled to create a range of freshly-brewed and preservative-free cervezas inspired by their favourite sights, stories and flavours of Mexico. We put our heads together with local microbrewery Trouble Brewing and lo and behold: a true brewmance was born. Read on to discover each flavour profile behind our curated range of session beers — a summer ale, pilsner, pale ale and a stout — for our Loco audience, exclusively developed as a complement to our food menu and tailored for Singapore’s tropical weather.

Tulum Verano Summer Ale

Tulum Verano Summer Ale

The smell of salt floating on a gentle sea breeze and the feel of warm, silken sand under your toes on a summer afternoon. That’s the Tulum Verano for you: crafted as an ode to those long lazy days under the Mexican sun. With citrus and rakau hops that lend a lush aroma of stone fruit, this crisp and cheerful summer ale is imbued with mellow fruity and earthy notes punctuated with a light citrusy tang.

ABV: 4.5% vol.

Pesado Pilsner

Pesado Pilsner

Aptly named after the pesado, heavyweight wrestlers in Mexico with a rich heritage as storied and proud as their famous counterparts, the luchadores, the Pesado Pilsner throws an expert punch with all the exactness of a seasoned fighter in the ring. Brewed with earthy Nelson Sauvin hops from southern New Zealand that give our pilsner a robust body — much like his namesake — and an earthy aroma reminiscent of grapefruit and rhubarb, its brash intensity is countered by the sweetness of prickly pear, with a tart edge. The pesados would be proud.

ABV: 4.8% vol.

Nuevo Gringo Pale Ale

Nuevo Gringo Pale Ale

We could delve into great length about how the term gringo originated centuries ago in Spain, not Mexico, but let’s cut to the chase. Brewed with zesty citra and Nelson Sauvin hops, this boisterous, hoppy and full-bodied American-style pale ale that boldly flirts with fruity notes is...for lack of a better example, very much like Joey Tribbiani from Friends. What you see is pretty much what you’ll get: the kind of friend who’ll unashamedly eat your food and inexplicably spill sauce all over your shirt while he’s at it, but is without doubt, a sweet, endearing and loyal companion that’s palatable and fun to be around with.

ABV: 4.8% vol.

Mayan Dark Roasted Lager

Mayan Dark Roasted Lager

You thought you knew lager — but the Mayan Dark Roasted Lager isn't your typical lager. Technically, the Mayan is a dark ale, but with all the characteristics of a classic stout, keeping it bold, hearty and yet easy to drink. Made with dark roasted malt grains that diffuse smoky tones to its smooth coffee notes, its malty backbone takes a backseat to rich bittersweet notes of cocoa as a nod to the cacao plant so revered by the great Mesoamerican empire of yore.

ABV: 5.0 % vol.

And When You Can’t Choose…

Beer Flight Side View

Choosing between our beers? That’s almost like Thor picking Jane over his right-hand Asgardian woman, Lady Sif (oh come on, as if you didn’t notice Lady Sif making eyes at Thor. We love Jane, but Lady Sif is a total badass). Back to our point — if you’re an Indecisive Ignacio, look to our Craft Beer Flight: three 180ml glasses of our summer ale, pale ale and pilsner. We’d certainly tap that.

Our Tulum Verano Summer Ale, Pesado Pilsner, Nuevo Gringo Pale Ale and Mayan Dark Roasted Lager, each priced at $14, are available separately or as a craft beer flight at $18 at Super Loco Robertson House, Super Loco Customs House and Lucha Loco. The latter three beers are also available on tap at Chico Loco.
